Stash + Excuses

I can't believe I've been away for this long.
The only sorts of excuses I can make are a little faulty. I joined a swim team, I've spent more time with the boyfriend, and somehow... My computer slipped through the cracks - something that rarely happened.
Actually, I haven't even been taking pictures of my manicures, also a new thing that bothers me. I'm not sure what it is, but I really just haven't been, despite fresh manicures each week.
If I didn't post now, I never really would - so here's a picture that a month old of my stash. It's off by 1, since I recently bought the ORly Sec N' Dry top coat (which SUCKS for nail art), as well as the new top coat and pastel colours I'll be purchasing soon. I currently have 128 bottles.

Hopefully new posts within this month.

Nail Art: Patchwork Mani

Oh hey guys! It's been a while since my last post - things are hectic since school has started, and my school is the over-crowded/guinea pig one so things have been a little crazy.
The previous manicure I did I forgot to take a picture of! I haven't done that since I started the site, so I'm just really stressed.
Also I joined the swim team this year, which really sucks for my poor nails <3 It's also senior years, so I have to focus on my grades.
Anyways, here's some nail art I did, trying to follow Kayla Shevonne's awesome manicure tutorial. I'm not really a pastel girl (but I'm learning to be!), so I used my metallics and such.

^ Click the peekture for nail art awesomeness^

The polishes I used were Sexy Silhouette Frostbite from China Glaze, as well as Positive Energy from Nicole By OPI. The black 'stitches' are using my Kiss nail art brush thing.
That's all for now ~ Hopefully I can post soon!

Three Manicures

Oh hey guys! Sorry for my lack of updating.. I've been super busy too lazy to bring down my cable to transfer stuff, LOL... I'm lazy...
Anyways, I've built up three swatches because of that (I've also got some new nail art and make up to show/review, sooo yeah!) and I figured I should probably post them all since I kinda disappeared - I suppose. All in all, what I've got to show you is Strawberry Fields, Watermelon Rind, and Sex In The City from China Glaze, Party Of Five Glitter from Wet 'N' Wild, and a reappearance by Groupie from L.A. Girl.
[This post is picture heavy! Be warned!]

First off, I want to say I didn't haul these or buy these all at the same time. I feel like I'm dying a bit more when I do that. I like to spread out my buying ;D Also, excuse the dry cuticles.
This is Strawberry Fields from China Glaze.

I used to totally be against most.. well, girly shades of pink - but I've always been captivated by the swatch wheel of this at my local Sally's Beauty Supply. Unfortunately, nearly everytime I look for this, it's gone, and some incredibly obnoxious fuchsia is sitting there. I got lucky, and was searching behind other pinks and boom! Found it!
Anyyyyways, this polish applied awesome! I only used two coats, but my smile line might've been more hidden if I had gone with another coat. It's a pink with shimmery gold flecks in it that I was so in love with. I wouldn't wear this all the time, but LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Next is a glitter accent mani, featuring Sex In The City from China Glaze, and Party Of Five Glitter from Wet 'N' Wild.
Awesome! I love blues and I have this bad obsession with those tropical looking teal colours (I have so many). This reminded me of those, but it was definitely more blue than green. I added the glitter because I wanted to make use of my glitter polishes, LOL. I hate removal (even with foil) so I usually only do accents.
SITC was only two coats, by the way. Even more awesome!

Lastly, this is the manicure I still have on. This is Watermelon Rind from China Glaze, and Groupie from L.A. Girl (which you might not know, is my all time favorite purple. Yeah. That's right)

This one was inspired by Donatello the turtle (and the boyfriend who picked green). Honestly? I wasn't 'wowed' by this polish. It looks kickass in the bottle, but I was.. eh. Not too impressed :/ If it weren't for my accent purple nails, this polish would've been off in two days. Application took three coats for opacity.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed those manicures ^_^ I have some more posts, and now that I've actually gotten a bunch of photos on my computer, they'll be up within the week (maybe. I'm so lazy)

Something Irrelevant: Eyeliner: NYX's Felt Tip vs. L'Oreal Lineur Intense (Old & New) vs. Revlon Colorstay

Oh hi guys :]
Today is a comparison between four of the liquid eyeliners I own (I once had the Prestige one, but I used it up before the start of this site, and really can't remember how well it worked).
I wanted to do this because frankly, I heard great things about all of these liners, but when I googled it I could never find a comparison - just singular reviews that normally said "this is great!" which didn't help me all too much. So here I've got Revlon Colorstay, L'Oreal Lineur Intense (felt tip), and NYX Felt Tip Liner.
On to the comparisons!
From left to right: Revlon Colorstay, L'Oreal Lineur Intense (felt tip) x2, NYX Felt Tip Liner.
PACKAGING: Revlon & L'Oreal have the basic felt tip and inkpot thing going on. Both need to be shaken before using. The NYX you don't really have to shake (and if you do, there's no clicky sound). It's a felt tip liner, so it's remove the cap and apply.
FAVORITE: I love how nice and thin the NYX one is. It's definitely nicer to hold in my hands. Next would be L'Oreal - despite how long the handle is.

TIP: The hardest tip would definitely be NYX, and next would be Revlon. Neither bend - at all. So those two are great for liquid liner n00bs, since it gives you much more control, I suppose. NYX is much too hard for my liking though. Which brings us to L'Oreal - this thing bends like a noodle. It's definitely not for beginners, but you can get the hang of it pretty easily.
FAVORITE: I can't say I have a favorite tip persay - I like them for different reasons.

APPLICATION: Revlon is a thicker, and more stiff (LOL THATS WHAT SHE SAID... ahem) brush tip with more control, so if you prefer to do your make up quicker, you will get thick liner. It's also easier to get a winged tip with this one. It's not the best for a thin line if you're in a rush. You need a whole lot of patience. That's likewise with the L'Oreal one as well - it's very, very capable of both thick & thin lines, but you need patience when you use it or your line can go uneven. NYX, on the other hand, gives you both easily.
FAVORITE: NYX, hands down. It's the easiest to apply.

Without flash & with. From left to right: Revlon, L'Oreal (old), L'Oreal (new), and NYX.
COLOR: Revlon has always been the most matte of the group (which makes it look like a lighter, less striking black). L'Oreal, however, tends to have a 'still wet' look, which some people like more. Now, the OLD L'Oreal I would've suggested to anyone - BUY IT! But sadly, not anymore. The new formula is much more watery and streaky, and so you don't get that strong, pigmented black like you should get.The NYX is definitely less black than the others - but I most admit that mine has been slightly dried out for a while. The tip is dried, but the sides aren't.... so great for swatching, bad for applying.
FAVORITE: I personally love the wet look, so I will mostly pick up L'Oreal.

Water test.
ENDURANCE: Revlon is pretty much a strong force against water. Which for looooong days where I'll be out and about is awesome! L'Oreal's old formula was stronger against water, but the new one peeled like I do when I'm sunburnt. Yuck. Also, both old & new L'Oreal flake off throughout the day, especially in warmer conditions. As for NYX, it smudged a bit, but this baby stays put.
FAVORITE: For hot days it's Revlon. But other days, I definitely prefer L'Oreal, since I don't need any make up remover for it (it's great for travel!). You wet your fingers, slide all the liner off and boom. Clean eyelids. If you even attempt this with Revlon, enjoy looking like a panda. I never tried this with NYX.

PRICE: This really only applies to my Canadian readers (silent or public), but Revlon is definitely the cheapest at around $7. L'Oreal generally sells for around $12, and NYX sells at $10.
Side note - my NYX Felt Tip Liner dried out in a week. I have read some reviews though, where it's lasted people a long long time. So perhaps you'll get lucky.

CONCLUSION: If you're looking for a dark black that's long lasting, but willing to give up thinner precision, go for Revlon.
If you're more experienced with liquid liner and aren't looking for too much staying power (like if you're a couch potato like me ;D) then L'Oreal is for you.
If you REALLY prefer pencil, go for NYX. It's probably the easiest to use, and you can get really precise or really bold with it. It's pretty pricy, and you don't know if it'll dry up like mine, though.

Hope this helped anyone looking to dip into the liquid liner world :]
Comments make me happy  :]

Splatter Mani!

Here's a mani I did following The PolishAholic's tutorial. Honestly this shouldn't have been so darn difficult for me... but it was. Moving on!
I didn't tape my fingers nor did I spray the polish out the right way... So to say this was messy is quite the understatement, LOL. I did find an easier way though - put a drop of polish on finger, and proceed to blow it out with the straw.
I think something's wrong with me, haha.
So I used Maybelline's Eternal Snow (it's reaaaaaaaally old!) as a base, and for splatter colours I used Avon's Nailwear Pro in Tangtastic, The Face Shop's YL702, and Cara's 206. I really dislike how Asian brands give their polishes numbers instead of names >:(
I based this mani on summer-y colors, woooo ! I also did this in like late June, haha.

Toodle-loooo ~

Something Irrelevant: Looks: Slytherin

Oh my gosh guys, last night (or this morning) I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter! I was all donned in a Slytherin cloak and scarf, had a green hair accessory and green nails, as well as some green & silver eyeshadow. It was SO worth it going at midnight! We got super nifty 3D glasses for going at midnight:
Some people were there for two days before today. Crazy! It was raining but my friends and I still had fun. The movie was bittersweet - so intense and awesome, but at the same time it was really sad (both the movie and knowing the series has come to an end). Unfortunately I got some D-bag sitting behind my friends and I, who not only made extremely rude remarks about us, but continued to talk throughout the movie and very rudely ask us to "shut up please" despite speaking himself. Also, once the epilogue came up he promptly announced, "aww man, soo gay". He definitely dampened my experience, but despite his d-baggery, it was amazing and I couldn't stop crying.
Anyways, on to the make up!
Pre-facepaint and...

 Post facepaint! Yeah warstripes!
I used two NYX eyeshadow pencils (those are awesome, lemme tell you), and Revlon Colorstay liquid eyeliner.
Nails tomorrow - for now, here's a Hogwarts crest shrinky dink I made! (and then lost a few hours later *tears*)

Did any of you see the midnight showing? Did you lovee the movie? Opinions?

Break Away!

No swatch today - I'm currently vacationing in Mexico, so I can't upload pictures. I'm borrowing my dad's laptop, and it's preeeeeeeetty slow.
Upside, I'm going for a mani/pedi sometime this week, and I plan on buying tons of nail polish while here (or on the way back).

See you in a bit!

GOSH: Blue Monday

Summeeerrr, wooooooo!
... Just had to get that out of my system :)
Now! Here's Blue Monday from a European brand called GOSH.
GOSH is sold in Shopper's Drug Mart across Canada. As far as I know, that's the only place to get it here.
Blue Monday is actually lighter than this - and in the bottle it had these really pretty purple fleckies. Unfortunately, when the polish dries the purple kinda disappears. So, that really sucked. Anyways, figured it would be good with some stamping, so I stamped using Nicole by OPI's Positive  and Bundle Monster plate -212.

Okay, that's all :) Till next time!

Teeez: Outta Control

Hey guys!
I recently won this nail polish in a give away from the lovely Witoxicity. It's the first online giveaway I've won, and this was definitely aweeeesomeeee! Anyways, swatch time!
This is Outta Control from Teeez.
Teeez is a European brand of nail polish that I can't for the life of me, find in Vancouver. And isn't this colour so pretty! A deep, dark violet/purple with LINEAR HOLO (scattered holos are pretty meh in my book). I honestly will keep this forever.
It would've been a one-coater, but I had a little bit of bald spots so it was two, plus top coat (which might've killed the holo, just a bit). My phone camera failed to pick up the true holo-i-ness of it, sadly.
On another note, McDonalds has some new Pokemon toys to go along with the Happy Meals... I have a couple friends who work there, I bought this off one of them :)
If you press his tail, his cheeks light up! Ahhhh, so cute :3

Anyways, thats all for now :)

China Glaze: Sexy Silhouette

Today I have a very awesome hot pink from China Glaze. This one is called Sexy Silhouette, and I bought it around the same time I bought Blue Iguana and Watermelon Rind (both of which are China Glazes).
Unfortunately, my Nikon Coolpix L110 camera could not correctly capture the sexy hot pink-ness that is Sexy Silhouette, but here is a 'close' attempt.
Definitely over-exposed. Sadly, my the camera on my Nexus S phone has more accurate colours and proper exposure. It sports only 5 megapixels, yet my Nikon has 12 megapixels.
Um, what?
But I'm off-topic. If you look below, you will see a very accurate photo of Sexy Silhouette. It's so pretty! I love how bright it is - I've been looking for a really nice hot pink, and this is definitely my favorite. This says a lot, since I don't really like pink, anyways.
All in all, Sexy Silhouette is definitely that - sexy. It applies smoothly (add white underneath for extra umph!) and removes great (no staining! yay!), but it's definitely not for your mom! (Or at least, my mom. But then again, she only wears washed out pastel pink, ugh)

Till next time!

Prom Nails (I found em!) & Stamping.

So I was casually looking through my camera's memory and boom! There's my prom nails. Honestly, I thought I took the photos on my phone, which I've been doing a lot since it gives more accurate colors than my Nikon, sadly...
ANYWAYS, here's a double swatch type post. First off is a scotch tape mani from a tutorial over @ Chloe's Nails, that I used for my Jr. Prom - it features two coats of a white nail polish from Avon, and two coats of a pink Korean nail polish from a store called Cara.
Major bubbling happening here! Seriously, what went down? I noticed Seche Vite sometimes does that to me. I'm pretty sure I need to just stop shaking the bottle :P
Anyways, I totally didn't execute this well, and the pink was WAY more fake Barbie than I hoped. It looks fine in the photo, but the photo lies! D:<
OKAY, next up is one from another one from the Cara store, from a brand called Nail Colordium. Definitely was too plain for my taste (though I LOVE THIS COLOR, OHMYGOSH)
Stamped with my Bundle Monster plate to make up for it! I used another Nail Colordium polish with this.
I'll probably edit this post later when I figure out which plate I used, and if anyone asks I'll put up the names (or numbers) of the polishes I used.

Till next time :)

Something Irrelevant: Mascara: NYX - Doll Eye Mascara in Volume

So I would've posted this a couple days earlier, but... Well, I'm lazy :]
Anyways, here's a review of Doll Eye Mascara (DE02) in Volume - Extreme Black from NYX.

Okay, I'll start of first by saying - I am a complete mascara n00b. I've only ever bought one other mascara (it was Maybelline's Great Lash), and that was when I was still in elementary school. Yikes. So, why did I buy this? Well 1) I loveee NYX products, and 2) I saw the MUA reviews.
This wasn't a top rated mascara, but it did get an average rating of 3.8, plus 68% said they would buy it again.
Unfortunately, I was not part of that 68%.
Okay, maybe it's just me, but this mascara felt really... sticky on my lashes. Perhaps I'm just not used to mascara, but I really disliked wearing this. Volume-wise, I did feel it did a good job.
Maybe I got a defect product?
Unfortunately, no pictures with it on - but those would've been disastrous since it looked kind of webby.
Maybe you'll have better luck, but I'm going to chuck this in the 'give-to-friend-in-need' bin.

China Glaze: Blue Iguana from the Island Escape Collection

Oh sadness! The nails I did for prom... Apparently my pictures didnt save :/ But! I do have this swatch, of Blue Iguana from China Glaze. The colour really didn't wow me, so it was followed by a Konad/Bundle Monster stamp for an extra kick! Here's a photo.
(ignore the chips everywhere, I was tired of the mani... and when I'm tired of a mani I pick at it)
Blue Iguana is a not so unique frosted blue, with a pretty regular application.
It took me three coats to have decent coverage, but my smile line was still pretty visible. Hence the stamp - which is from the new Bundle Monster set, plate BM-208.  I used the special Konad stamping polish in white.
Meh, though Blue Iguana is a nice colour, it really didn't... blow me away, like I was hoping it would.

For next time, maybe some fakies? With fimos :)

Nicole by OPI - Loyalty To Royalty + OPI - I Juggle... Men

Hi guys! Before I head in straight to this mani, I wanted to share my junior prom pictures!
Squee!

Now that that's over, here's three coats of Loyalty To Royalty from Nicole by OPI, followed by two coats of I Juggle... Men from OPI.
This duo makes a kickass combo (they weren't my prom nails, by the way. Those will be up soon!). Loyalty To Royalty is a super bright NOTICE-ME kinda blue, quite similar to Frostbite from China Glaze
Here's a close up of the shimmery flakiness that is I Juggle... Men.
Isn't it pretty! I'm so in love with it. It's not meant to be worn alone (unless you're into that sheer... thing). It also kinda... wrinkles? It looked really weird until I put on Seche Vite. Hmm. I'll have to try it again I suppose.

I have some exciting new posts coming up soon! Fakies with Fimos and I just got a new set of Bundle Monster plates :)

Sally Hansen HD: Spectrum over Icing's Black Magic

Hi guys! I have another from the Sally Hansen HD collection. This one is called Spectrum, and instead of putting it on my bare (with the exception of a topcoat) nail, I put it over a coat of black to really make it pop!
Here's a photo of it after 9 DAYS of wear.

Flash - sometime late at night...

I think chipping is okay after a week, honestly. I actually started hating the colour because I wore it for too long x) Anyways, this picture ^ is a small liar. It's much, muuuuuuch more teal than this.
Let's break it down.
Base coat + 1 coat of Black Magic + 2 coats of Spectrum + Seche Vite = 9 days.
Overall, wear was pretty good and the colour was fabulous. I'm not sure how it would hold up without the black underneath though...

I just bought some new China Glaze today, so I'll be swatching those soon. BUT next post will be Nicole By OPI's Loyalty To Royalty.

See you soon!

Something Irrelevant: Eyeliner: NYX - Felt Tip Liner

Hi guys :3
It's the Mother's day weekend! I had some last minute shopping to do and I am exhaaaausted. But, I haven't posted in a bit (or it feels like forever, really) so here's something.
Today I'm reviewing the Felt Tip Liner from NYX.
Alright, first off - I am a liquid eyeliner girl. I can't stand the smudginess of pencil, and I have yet to try gel. I've tried the Prestige one, Revlon, and L'oreal. I saw that Jen from frmheadtotoe had bought one in a haul, so I figured "Hey what the heck! I'll give it a go". I was super excited when I got to the store, bought it for about $10 (Canadian) and brought it home. It was like immediate love at first try. It gave me a really nice sharp line. It wasn't too water-y that I had to wait for it to dry, yet it was so precise that I didn't make mistakes.
(These was taken the day I bought it and tried it out. Super sharp line, yay! The only picture you could see the eyeliner clearly was one of me sticking my tongue out... Not attractive, haha.)
I followed the instructions to keep the pen-side down (I do that with all my pens/sharpies as well), but GUESS WHAT. One week later, and it was gone. The point of the felt tip was absolutely dry, and no ink came out of it. Using the sides provided what it originally put out, but the tip was rendered useless.
I've heard some people say it lasted them more than two months, but I suppose I was unlucky since mine lasted a week. I still have it... But it's pretty much in my "useless/pretty" and "don't buy again" piles.
Overall verdict: Super freaking awesome while it lasted. But it didn't last. Great for girls who have unsteady hands, and want a nice, clean line.
Who knows, you might have a different experience than I did.

China Glaze : Jamaican Out

Hi guys ^^
This one is Jamaican Out from China Glaze. I bought it during the 'Buy two get one free' at Sally's Beauty Supply.
Okay, here we go!
Jamaican Out is a super pretty orange-y/peach-y/kinda-tangerine-y colour. (I'm so terrible, LOL) Shown above was two coats with a top coat. So, two coats = very visible smile line in the shade. Perhaps three coats may have done the trick? But I was feeling sick and lazy at the time, so only two.
This photo was taken after around 4 days of wear without tips. Most of the visible tip was due to me accidently grinding my nails on the new glass grinder we got at school. It works really well - my nails found that out :/
Overall, it's a pretty color, but eh... I'm not really feelin' it.

Oh, by the way - Happy Star Wars day! May the 4th be with you.

Nubar Giveaway!

Hey guys - long time no post, huh? Sorry, I managed to get myself a nasty case of 'a little bit of strep throat, little bit of bronchitis, little bit of laryngitis' (as my doctor put it!) so I was out of commission and lying in bed all day. Seriously. I was going crazy.
Anyways, thanks to that, no new swatch for you - but here's a super sweet giveaway over @ Sonidlo's Nail Polishes!
The only mandatory way to enter is to be a public follower of the blog, but there's extra ways for entries too :)

Good luck, everyone!

Fake Nails : Classy Black & White

Hi guys! This time I have a set of fake nails I made for my friend Katrina's birthday. I was kinda sad to let them go, I really like these, haha.
Here they are! Using Sinful Color in Black on Black, and Maybelline Salon Expert in Eternal Snow, I wanted them to be sorta classy looking (so really, no BAM POP kinda colours).
I used a Kiss striper for the black polka dots & black cross hatches. I also used silver rhinestones to make it nicer ^^ The larger ones (so the big circles & the squares) are from Sally's Beauty Supply, and I got them for around $6. Pretty pricey, since there were only 60 rhinestones. The smaller, more used circles are from Ebay! Hooray! I got mine from a seller named Ms.Agent. Prices were extreeeeemely cheap, though we did face some shipping difficulties. I didn't receive it for a month, so I messaged her - she resent it and I got it within a week! Yayface!

What do you think of them?

Sally Hansen HD: DVD over Sinful Colours: Black On Black

Look at me! Posting two days in a row ^_^
It makes it easier for me to post more frequently if I write about other products I use (I paint my nails every week...)
Anyways, I tried Sally Hansen DVD from the HD collection before on it's own, and that was a disaster. Not opaque, took forever to dry, and it just drove me insane - but the colour WAS SO PRETTY.
So, thanks to seeing a post @ Beauty by Kayla Shevonne, I decided to layer it over black.
This is base coat + two coats of Sinful Color's Black On Black + one coat of Sally Hansen DVD + Seche Vite.
Picture time!
OOOH! LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS! <3
And you see that gap? Cleaaaaan cuticles, baby! Awwe yeah, first time cleaning it like that - it was a pain in the butt, haha - and my nails look so tiny!
I also bought a bottle of Laser from the HD collection, so I'll have to try this out soon as well! :3

Byeee!

Something Irrelevant: Moisturizer: Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer Review

Hi guys! So I've been meaning to post this review (and by meaning to, I mean like, a few weeks ago. Even before I left for my trip), but with my Japanese student Nozomi, I was super busy. She was only here for a few days but we became bestfriends! Oh, I'm so sad she's gone now :(
Here's a quick pic of me & her in Dairy Queen, haha.
She's on the right - AND ISN'T SHE ADORABLE?!

Ahem, anyways...onto the review!

So I decided that since I have pretty bad acne, I wanted to try out this moisturizer. I picked it up at Target when I was down in the States, for around $15, I think. It seemed pretty good at the time, the bottle says not to use it more than 3 times a day I think? I used it twice, once in the morning, and once before bed.

MOISTURIZER: This was actually a pretty good moisturizer -  it absorbed into my skin fairly quickly and didn't add any greasiness or too much shine. My face felt nice and soft all day.

ACNE: I honestly do feel that this cleared up my skin a bit - just a bit. My acne is more of those stupid little bumps on your forehead that aren't really pimples, they just make you look... not very smooth :/

PROBLEM: I do have one, MAJOR problem with this - I think I used it too much, to the point where it irritated my skin AND MY FACE ITCHED LIKE NO OTHER. Currently the bottle is just sitting in my cupboard, never to be used again.

WORTH IT: This product might work for you, but it definitely did not work for me. Sure my face cleared up a bit, but this product ended up driving me mad. I wouldn't repurchase.

I'll have a nail polish post up... maybe tomorrow? Sometime this week, I swear!
Oh! And I bought some really great stuff that I'll be posting up.

Cheerio,

Giveaway & Going Away

First off, The PolishAholic is celebrating one year of blogging! Woo ^^ They have four prizes up for grabs, and here they are...
Aren't those nice?! The only one I'm not pumped for is the Misa one (i'm not a pastel person, hehe) but the other prizes all look great. You can enter here.

Secondly, I'm going on vacation tomorrow till the end of March. I'm headin' to Jamaica for some beach and sun, and then Orlando to go to the WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER. Freakin excited? YES, YES I AM! After I return I'll try to post, but I have a Japanese exchange student who'll be living with  me for a week (yay!) so I'll be super busy. I might be able to post some quick pics later, especially if I get some new polishes.
See you later!
